Questions About Gravel Driveway Installation?

We primarily use crushed asphalt, crushed concrete, limestone, and 1x3 base stone for our gravel driveways. These materials are selected for their durability, stability, and ability to create a smooth driving surface.

Proper drainage is essential for the longevity of a gravel driveway. We assess the land's natural slope and may install drainage solutions like culverts or grading the driveway in a way that directs water away from the surface.

The depth of the base layer depends on the soil type and the expected load on the driveway. Typically, we install a base layer of 4-6 inches for residential driveways. For areas with heavier traffic or softer soil, we may recommend a deeper base.

The top layer of crushed asphalt is usually about 3 inches deep. This thickness provides a solid, drivable surface while minimizing the amount of gravel that might get displaced.  We typically add a thicker top-layer then our local competitors because we want your driveway surface to last!

The time frame for installation varies based on the size and complexity of the project. A standard driveway can typically be completed in a few days, weather permitting.

Yes, we provide maintenance services such as regrading, resurfacing, and pothole repairs to keep your gravel driveway in optimal condition.

Yes, we have experience working with various landscapes. For uneven terrain, we perform additional grading and leveling to create a stable base for the driveway.

Crushed asphalt and crushed concrete are both popular materials for gravel driveways, but they have some distinct differences:

Crushed Asphalt: This material is recycled from old asphalt roads. It tends to bind together slightly better than crushed concrete, creating a more uniform surface. Over time, the heat and pressure of traffic can cause the crushed asphalt to bind together more, resembling a solid asphalt surface. It's also known for its darker color, which can help in melting snow faster in colder regions.

Crushed Concrete: This is recycled concrete material. It's known for its excellent compaction and strength, making it a good choice for driveways that will bear heavy loads. Crushed concrete provides a more rugged texture than crushed asphalt and has a lighter color. It's also an environmentally friendly choice as it repurposes waste concrete.

Both materials are cost-effective and durable options for gravel driveways. The choice between the two often depends on the specific needs of your driveway.  At Gath's Landscaping, we can help you decide which material is best suited for your driveway project based on our experience.

I had Gath Landscaping remove some boulders in my yard. They were priced inexpensive and they didn't leave a mess. So I hired them again when I fell victim to a rollover accident that occurred in my front yard. They did a same day estimate, the work was done well and timely, they went above and beyond and again, they didn't leave a mess. I even caught them verbally having fun! I highly recommend Gath Landscaping.
